Following a recent fire in the heart of Philadelphia, a significant historic structure required immediate protection to prevent further weather damage. Global Wrap was brought in to shrink wrap a scaffolding enclosure and dome to mitigate the loss of the remaining structure while restoration teams work to preserve what can be saved.
Our crew mobilized quickly to wrap multiple sections of scaffolding surrounding the building using 12-mil fire-retardant shrink film, designed to withstand harsh weather and create a durable, weather-tight barrier. The enclosure spans both vertical and horizontal planes, sealing in the scaffold to shield the building’s delicate exterior from rain, wind, and debris.
This customized solution was critical to the recovery effort of this historic building. With exposed masonry, decorative cornices, and the entire roof compromised by the fire, the shrink wrap containment now provides the environmental control needed to help begin the restoration effort.
Global Wrap’s team coordinated closely with site safety personnel to ensure proper ventilation, access points, and safe installation methods in a congested urban area. The result is a fully enclosed system that not only protects the structure from further weather exposure, but also reduces risks to nearby pedestrians and neighboring properties.
Projects like this demonstrate Global Wrap’s ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency conditions—delivering tailored containment systems that help protect both people and property, and play a key role in preserving our shared architectural heritage.
